The showroom of the Smart Data Forum offers demonstrators to display the rapid progress in Smart Data through the dynamic presentation of exciting projects in research and industry. At events and workshops, you have the opportunity to meet and network with partners from relevant projects, initiatives and authorities, and eventually create synergies that advance your project. The exhibition and event showroom is available to agents and associations for events with a smart data reference.
Overall more than 5000 visitors used the various offers of our showroom – among them about 65 international delegations from 19 different countries!
At our showroom you can also find interactive experience stations of Erlebnisraum _Gemeinsam digital, which is part of the “Mittelstand 4.0” competence center and presents use cases for digital solutions in SME related topics like digital marketing, human ressources, digital business models and value-addition processes 4.0.

Our Demonstrators provide insights into the variety of applications for Smart Data technologies. We offer a range of presentation types like interactive demos, VR-presentations and info screens on topics like Smart Living, Smart Energy, Machine Learning, Logistics, eHealth, Cloud Computing and Disaster Control.
Among our partners for these demos are Berlin Big Data Center, Fraunhofer Institutes, projects of the BMWi founded program “Smart Data – Innovationen aus Daten”, the German Aerospace Center and the Research Center for Information Technology.
Intelligent driving assistance systems are increasingly playing an important role in modern vehicles. Localization and navigation are two key tasks, which usually use global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) in open areas. However, indoors GNSS is too error-prone.
In this use case Virtuose uses onsite cameras to detect, track and localize objects in a car park. To achieve accurate 3D localization the video stream is processed without completely decoding it, which reduces hardware resources needed. The system is also compatible with cars regardless of their own respective sensor configuration.

The cloud-based App Store Platform combines a large variety of services and devices (home automation, waste management, security, environment, etc.). A wide range of digital offers can be comfortably bought, subscribed and managed “from one source”. The link between services and devices works smoothly and transparently with different standards and data formats. SmartOrchestra can be deployed in various scenarios, such as the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, Smart Home or Smart Cities.
Smart Data for Mobility & Smart Data Web
For industry companies with various suppliers, it is crucial to be informed about current events which can influence their supply chain management. The Target of the App’s purpose is to monitor difficulties in the delivery process due to observing traffic, natural disasters and also economic events of merger and acquisitions of suppliers. This information is coming from websites,Twitter and RSS feeds. The algorithm behind it works as computational linguistics (analyzing words, then sentences and then in which context the sentences are standing), to evaluate their content for the specific use case.

Every minute there is a huge data flow; Tweets, blogs, and news which can be used by companies due to intelligent reporting. ubermetrics is analyzing public information flows of heterogeneous sources for identifying risks, potentials and trends. The gained information helps companies in their decision making processes. The use cases are diverse; From marketing, PR and sales questions, to new product strategies and supply chain management. The analysis can support the decision making process by the evaluation of information for the specific topic.
sd-kama is an information platform for disaster relief management. The platform provides access to a large amount of data from various sources in real time. The platform aggregates information from satellite, traffic and other open data sources, as well as comments, photos and videos uploaded by rescue forces or disaster-affected citizens. In which area are the most of the relief forces needed? With a digital geospatial information system all stakeholders can be coordinated in real time.
There are many providers of cloud solutions. Unless it belongs to their core business, hardly any entrepreneur is an expert in the field of cloud services. This means uncertainty when it comes to selecting the right service. How can users know if a service is legally compliant or if they will handle their data securely? The technology program “Trusted Cloud“ by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy increases trust and transparency in providers. It also facilitates the adoption of Cloud Technologies for businesses.
Touch Application BMWi Research Programs
With our Touch Application, visitors can inform themselves about various research programs and projects as well as about general interesting facts of Big Data and Smart Data. The content can be discovered via different media formats such as video, puzzle plays or quiz games.
Virtual-Reality Demo „Smart Data – Innovations in Data“
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is presenting their research projects of the program “Smart Data – Data Innovations” due to a Virtual Reality Application. The guest can use the VR glasses to be in the role of a fictitious character named Dana Smart who is using Smart Data in her every-day life actions.
Cloud computing enables companies to use IT resources, e.g. Obtain servers or software from external vendors as needed instead of buying them yourself. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular can benefit from this: They are relieved of IT-related activities (eg creating backups, importing new program versions) and can free up cost-cutting potential. With cloud computing, it is also possible to dynamically and automatically adjust the number of servers to meet current needs.
CUPINTOSH – Hands on IoT Demo
CUPINTOSH presents the main functionality of the Internet of Things. A classic coffee cup is connected via sensors with Twitter, so every time someone is lifting the cup, it is sending a tweet.
Smart Health Demo
The e-health project of the Berlin Big Data Center shows how a health-care platform can help to monitor your own health. With the interactive dashboard, it is possible to continuously collect health-related data. The user can e.g. Capture nutritional data, movement patterns or sleeping habits. Based on the data, the system determines a health score (Smart Health Score) that helps improve one’s lifestyle and personal wellbeing.
Many devices nowadays offer digital control. The connection of these networked “things” enables powerful assistance functions for the user in various situations. For example, the heater can heat up the house to the desired temperature before the user arrives. Currently, however, the integration of various digital devices hardly takes place, since the communication of the devices with each other within the system of the manufacturer remains closed. However, for a perfect user experience, it’s important to connect devices regardless of their brand and assistance platforms. ENTOURAGE is developing an open ecosystem for intelligent, secure and trusted assistance systems in the Internet of Things.
ExCELL – The Open-Service- and Data Platform for Mobility und Logistics
ExCELL is part of the technology program “Smart Data – Innovations in Data” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The project aims to develop a city logistics platform that enables integrated mobility services for SMEs through big data innovation. Thanks to a crowdsourcing approach, based on real-time analysis of given geodata, data on the traffic situation and operating data, decentralization, flexibility and up-to-dateness are ensured. ExCELL is an open service and data platform designed to help developers find solutions for complex mobility and logistics use cases. For this the ExCELL platform offers the possibility to perform a service and data inquiry in real time through specified interfaces.
Today, neural networks are often used for the analysis of complex data – for example, to discover evidence of disease in genetic information. In the end, no one knows how these networks actually work. Researchers of the Fraunhofer Institute have developed a software, that they can use to gain an insight into the black boxes and analyze their mode of operation. The demonstrator visualizes what the black-box algorithm is focused on while analyzing data.
SAHRA – Smart Analysis Health Research Access
“SAHRA – Smart Analysis Health Research Access” intends to enable the legally certain combination of different kinds of health related data, such as accounting data, treatment data, study data and reference data. This data is accessible to health care providers and other users authorized on a highly secure, web-based analytics platform using the latest in-memory technology.
In Smart Data Forum, innovative projects and research groups have the opportunity to present themselves in the video teaser format. The Smart Data Dashboard was developed at the Fraunhofer IPK as part of the research project “Informationsfabrik 4.0”. Based on the common concept of a factory, the project explores and develops the information factory – a digital workbench to produce information. With the help of the dashboard, smart data can be experienced within the collaboration of product developers and operators of the system.
Erlebnisraum _Gemeinsam Digital
The new “Erlebnisraum _Gemeinsam digital” in the smart data forum showroom supports SME in their digitalization process. As part of the “Mittelstand 4.0” competence center in Berlin, these interactive experience stations demonstrate smart applications for small businesses and thereby complement the offer of our Showroom.
